How should I take care of my hair while swimming?

I swim 2 - 3 times a week as a competitive swimmer.
My hair is mid-back length and thin.
It tangles and become frizzy when I swim.
Any suggestions for how to protect and care for my hair before, during, and after swimming?
For some reason pantene and garnier fructis do not work well with my hair.
