Is it only endangered animals in zoos, or popular animals, or animals that are considered more domestic or friendly or what!? Heck, is there even a criteria at all?

I understand that many animals are not expected to live long because of predators etc…, but what animals would live the longest if allowed to live their life to the point of a natural death?

Lucienne states:

I’m interesting in becoming a vet, but I’m not sure what types of animals I could treat. I’m interested in small animals like dogs and cats, and large animals like horses, cows, sheep, etc. But I’m also into exotic animals; and not just exotic pets like ferrets and snakes, but the more zoo-related animals like big cats and stuff. Can a vet at least combine treating large and small animals? And is it possible to also treat the exotic animals, maybe by making “house” calls to a conservation center?

How did animals survive for millions of years with no vets to care for them?

Lucienne states:

So why do we need expensive vets for our pets. If the animal is cared for it will stay healthy until it gets old when it should be allowed to die a natural death same as it would in the wild. Or should we employ lots of vets to ‘Treat’ all the wild animals as well?

How many different species of animals have demonstrated the ability to recogonize themself in a mirror?

I know my Border Collie does. I did a test once, by putting a clip in his hair, on top of his head. When he walked in front of the mirror, he looked at himself, and started pawing his head to get the clip off.

Why do animals such as cats and dogs have various colors on their fur?

Inocencia states:

Humans have different colour skin because of the climate they once lived in.

Many male birds have bright colours to attract female birds.

Some animals who live in cold places have white fur to keep warm because their fur then takes in all the sunlight.

But why do some animals, like cats and dogs have stripes or spots? Why are some black, some white, some yellow, some grey and some multicolored etc?

Jestine states:

My Employer owned two reindeer which he uses at his christmas tree farm in NC. Unfortunately, one of the reindeer passed away, and restrictions prevent our obtaining another. What animals would be compatable to live with the reindeer? I have heard that it would most likely be goats.
I know this is a strange question and the world is full of comedians, but I would appreciate serious answers from adult type persons.
