What happens to the animals that vegetarians save?

I’m a vegetarian, and I’m against the creutly of animals. Lately I’ve been wondering, though, what happens to the animals we save? I hear people say that animals were meant to be eaten. And I can’t find a reason why else to keep them on Earth, except to have a happy free life, which we ALL deserve to have - humans AND animals.

If God made animals to eat, why are we shocked when a crocodile eats a person?

Humans eat animals everyday and I don’t see the animals revolting despite the torture they are put through.
How is this fair when we don’t need to eat another living being with so much at our disposal?
